  Work Experience:

Mr. Castillo is a former Orange County Deputy Public Defender for the County of Orange. Prior to his employment with the Orange County Public Defender's Office, Mr. Castillo worked as an attorney on multiple International Law cases with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Mr. Castillo participated in the drafting of legal briefs for the United States Supreme Court in Alvarez-Machain v. the United States, a seminal International Law case involving kidnapping in response to the killing of a DEA Agent.

Mr. Castillo also participated in drafting legal briefs in several cases arising out of the Alvarez-Machain case and the litigation that followed before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. As the result of these cases, Mr. Castillo also participated in the civil litigation that followed before the U.S. District Court in the City of Los Angeles.

As a Criminal Defense Attorney, Mr. Castillo has successfully defended clients in over 5,000 criminal matters. Mr. Castillo has handled over 100 Jury Trials in the course of his 15-year legal career in Southern California. Mr. Castillo has successfully tried cases to not guilty verdicts in Domestic Violence cases, Sexual Molestation cases, Assault and Battery cases, Assault with a Deadly Weapon cases, Possession of Drugs, Possession of Drugs with Intent to Sale, Possession and/or Transportation of Drugs, DUI and a variety of other misdemeanor and felony matters.

In 2000, Mr. Castillo joined the Law Offices of Barry T. Simons as a trial attorney and is now Senior Trial Attorney with the Law Offices of Barry T. Simons. Mr. Castillo speaks extensively and teaches other lawyers in the State of California on how to conduct and represent clients in criminal matters, DUI representation and administrative law practices. Mr. Castillo's reputation is one of an aggressive and straightforward Criminal Defense Attorney. Mr. Castillo maintains personal and professional relationships with members of the Orange County District Attorney's Office, as well as, Judges, Commissioners, and other influential figures in the Orange County Superior Court System.
